follow the music.
Everyone always says things like, "music is my soul", or "music makes me lose control", or "music is when people come together .." , to quote Madonna. But for me, discovering new music is also like discovering a new part of me. Another part of me that was lying dormant until this particular song spoke it into existance and said it was OK to come out now!
I simply love this. My favorite part of my job is that while I can discover new fashions, and the way things are created, merchandised, and forced on us (ha ha) ---I can also discover new music. Feist's "My moon, My man" is simply doing it for me right now. I love songs that I can close my eyes on and immediately draw inspiration from, and see a vivid picture of the way I want it to be laid out. I listen to this song about 4-5 times a day, and while it isn't brand new, I can still draw inspiration for my garments to be produced.
My moon, My man makes me think of 80's Power Suits, with serious blazers and shoulder pads ..like masculine, but with an added feminine edge like a ribon, or a diamond encrusted collar. It also reminds me of Acne's Fall 2009 RTW collection. I gain so many inspirations from just existing in this world. It doesn't cost millions of dollars to cultivate brilliance, talent, and well-roundedness. It's recession-proof, so open your eyes!
